Amazing Ad Campaign of the Day: To creatively demonstrate their sound engineering capabilities, GGRP Sound sent out a mess of cardboard record players — designed by GREY of Canada — to creative directors across North America.

The cardboard record player is exactly what it sounds like: A record player made from corrugated cardboard:

Once assembled, a record can be spun on the player with a pencil. The vibrations go through the needle and are amplified in the cardboard material.

I don’t know much, but I do know this: Every single last record should come wrapped inside a cardboard record player.

[adsoftheworld.]

I think we’ve found our new office chairs.

This American Life's redesigned website rocks.

This American Life's redesigned website rocks.:
According to their weekly newsletter, “Our goal was to make the it much easier to search for old shows, because that’s really what the vast majority of people use the website for - listening to archived episodes. To this end we’ve improved the search functionality, made the archives easier to navigate, and added the ability to search by contributor. If you like someone’s story, just click their name to see every other show they’ve been in. And more generally, we’ve simplified the menu structure to make it a more pleasing experience to move through the site.”

I like the simplicity and focus of the home page. The large text buttons throughout the site also have fun rollovers — playful and eye-catching. The main menu is a little overwhelming, but it’s pretty clear how to find what you want. Nice work, Number 17.

Free ebooks correlated with increased print-book sales

Free ebooks correlated with increased print-book sales

George Costanza Does The Opposite (via AliParr)

I just asked Cindy if she wanted me to order her usual chicken and broccoli from the Chinese restaurant.

“Sure. … No, wait! I always get chicken and broccoli. I have chicken and broccoli dishes at home, even. Order me something else. Shrimp. And snow peas.”

This made me think of my favorite scene in all of the television I’ve ever seen.

“My name is George. I’m unemployed and I live with my parents.”

“I’m Victoria. It’s not so much that posting things on Facebook was ever private; no teen sees the Wall as a private space. It’s that the default was not persistent, searchable, and scaled to a mass degree. Just because teens choose to share some content widely does not mean that they wish all content could be universally accessible. What they want is a sense of control. And what Facebook is doing is destabilizing the system in a way that complicates control, especially for teens who are most vulnerable of having content go down on their permanent record.”

- apophenia » Blog Archive » Public by Default, Private when Necessary
